David Meeting – Week 1 (27/01/17)

Prior to the first meeting Me and David had a brief meeting discussing the direction I wanted to take my project. We conversed with regards to the genre of music I would be creating, which artists would inform my approach when making these songs and how I could incorporate the production approaches of their associated producers into my project. I suggested that the tracks I am creating are in a similar style to Death in Vegas and The Dandy Warhols.

I suggested that for our first official meeting I should bring in some demos so that David could get an idea of how my songs would sound.

For the first meeting I played two demos I had recorded – “You and I” and “Wait”. David seemed particularly happy with the songs and suggested I should focus on completing the structure of the song before I begin to think too much on how certain musical elements should interact within the track. He believed the tracks to be very much in the style of Radiohead and the 90s ‘baggy’ scene of the 90s – Charlatans, Death in Vegas, The Dandy Warhols etc. David was pleased with how my vocals were sounding, though suggested I could perhaps collaborate with a singer as well.

We discussed how I should approach my research/blog; covering how I should be thinking about constructing my Learning Outcomes, in particular what skills/areas I want to improve by the end of the project. Expanding on this, we also look at how I can document the different recording/production techniques of relevant producers and introduce that these approaches into my project.

For the following meeting, I should continue to focus on the structure of my songs and use the recording process as a way to experiment with this and carry on searching for different artists to collaborate alongside with.
